Objective & Impact:

On a steep, tightly constrained site, LG Squared designed this bungalow to feel far more open and effortless than its conditions would suggest. Rather than allowing the terrain and narrow footprint to define the experience, the home was shaped as a calm, light-filled retreat - pairing the warmth of Craftsman detailing with smart planning, indoor-outdoor connection, and long-term performance.

• Difficult Site Resolved through careful siting and grading that accommodated dramatic elevation change, preserved a mature magnolia, and created a practical driveway approach.
• Tight Limits Managed with a disciplined foundation and planning strategy that delivered a four-bedroom home within 2,800 square feet.
• Craft Character Introduced through heavy timber brackets and exposed interior beams that give the bungalow warmth and architectural depth.
• Sense of Space Expanded with a two-story living room that draws in natural light and gives the compact plan a more generous feel.
• Space Used Intentionally with a hand-built loft ladder that preserves floor area while adding a custom functional detail.
• Long-Term Use Planned by locating mechanical systems in a conditioned attic with convenient loft access for serviceability and performance.
• Outdoor Living Extended through large sliding doors that open to two exterior living areas.
• Sustainable Value Added with an artist’s studio and integrated photovoltaics supporting personal utility and long-range performance.
