Challenging Can be Charming
Strict historic preservation guidelines and a steep site were no match for creativity and building science.
Service:
Architectural Design
Scope:
New Construction
Location:
Atlanta, Buckhead

Objective & Impact:
Located within Atlanta’s highly regulated Grant Park Historic District, this project presented a rare opportunity to unite preservation rigor with forward-looking building performance.
The result is a carefully calibrated residence that feels rooted in place, environmentally responsible, and distinctly modern.
- Historic Guidelines Navigated to achieve full district approval while maintaining architectural integrity.
- Stepped Massing Strategy Implemented to follow the slope and preserve the site’s natural rhythm.
- Mature Trees Protected to maintain ecological continuity and neighborhood character.
- Sustainable Systems Integrated to support efficiency, resilience, and occupant comfort.
- Contextual Infill Achieved with a design that complements surrounding homes without imitation.
- Public Recognition Earned through feature coverage on PBS’s Home Diagnostics “Form vs. Function: Aesthetics vs. Performance.”
- Client Relationships Extended as the producers later commissioned LG Squared to design their own residence.
